Honeymoon Monday: Tropical St. Maarten...

For today's Honeymoon Monday, we are traveling to the magical island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean! Wendy of Just Wenderful and her husband Jes honeymooned on this beautiful island, and Wendy was kind enough to share about their experience!

Jes + I love tropical weather and beaches so our honeymoon just had to be somewhere hot and yummy! Although we couldn't have our honeymoon right after our wedding it was worth the wait! We chose *drum roll* St. Maarten!

From reading reviews, we rented a car from Thrifty who picked us up from the airport. Get a car! We drove around the ENTIRE island in 2 hours and it was great to see the Dutch side vs. the French side. We stayed at The Westin which was super awesome except for the 12 am alarm our last night. No one wants a scare like that on such a small island after all these natural disasters you hear about on the news.

We went to Marigot, which is where they have a marketplace with everything you can think of from fresh produce to souvenirs, but BEWARE, everything is super expensive! Instead of $10 dollar souvenir magnets, we brought our friends homemade rum from a vendor there. I think we made the right choice right? Magnets or booze?

We're huge foodies so a lot of our pictures are...well, food! Other great places to eat are Toppers and Pineapple Pete's. If you're staying at The Westin, Mr. Busby's Beach Bar was also delicious and inexpensive.

I had the BEST burger at Lee's Roadside Grill and with $5 for a rib appetizer plate, I could just live there!

We also took a day trip on the Swaliga Charters with Captain Bob and his mate Oreo to Anguilla and we snorkeled our little, burnt selves til we dropped. My husband can't swim and he totally did it! I was so proud! We saw schools of fishes and giant turtles.

The only thing I would warn any of you thinking about going to St. Maarten is to lock your cars and do not leave any personal items unattended. We got our car rental broken into. The place that fixed our lock said we were his 8th customer that day! Boo for car thieves but yay for an amazing overall 'moon!
