Crafty Colorado Wedding...

Melissa and Matt's Colorado wedding was filled with personal hand crafted details! They included nods to many aspects of their lives such as their penchant for yard games and Matt's love for lotto tickets. They even held their wedding at a local park that they frequent. I love personal touches, they really add so much to a wedding! Tess and Kimothy from Love n Joy Photography was on hand to capture the day.

More from the bride, Melissa:

Our goal for the wedding was to ensure it reflected us as individuals and as a couple. We wanted our wedding to feel as relaxed, quirky and playful as possible.

We decided to host our wedding and reception in the Sopris Gardens and a one hundred year-old Pavillion in Denver's City Park. We have lived 2 blocks from City Park since our move to Denver and have spent almost every day in the park - playing yard games, listening to jazz concerts, taking runs, visiting the museums and playing tennis. We couldn't think of a more perfect place to host our big event.
I come from a really creative, crafty family so I knew right away that I was going to use my art skills to pay homage to my roots. I'm also lucky enough to have amazingly talented friends and family who helped me DIY the entire wedding - from the table runners to the centerpieces, the invitations to the escort cards, the cake toppers to the wedding arch - our hands touched every single aspect of the wedding. You could see the love in every little detail.

My fiance and I are known for yard games and costume parties so we made sure they were the part of our cocktail hour and reception.

My good friend Laura Hohman is a fabulous graphic designer who hand painted our invitations. Close friends helped me wrap the invite in cording and seal it in wax. She also create a wedding monogram for us that we used on our wicker fans and favors.

My grandfather was an immigrant tailor and taught me to sew as soon as I could wear a thimble and reach the sewing machine pedals. In honor of him, we created the fabric flags and used buttons to decorate our escort cards and table signage.

My grandmother gifted me a number of vintage and antique glass vases and mason jars in blues and greens which I decided to use as centerpieces. My mother spent months collecting additional blue mason jars from antique dealers and flea markets to complete the centerpieces. And my fabulous girlfriend spent the morning of my wedding adding flowers, ribbon and candles to the vases.

Our favors were little inside jokes - my fiance gives everyone lotto tickets for birthdays, Christmas gifts, thank yous, etc - of course our wedding couldn't be any different!

We used a local bakery a block from our shop to create five smaller cakes sitting atop eclectic cake stands and topped them with paper cranes that are reminiscent of the cranes my great uncle would make for us each time we visited.

The only advice that I can give brides is to stay true to who you are and don't be afraid to show those characteristics in the ceremony and reception.

UGH! Leave all other weddings behind. I love the charming craftiness, their INVITATIONS (GASP) and so much more. Her shoes, for example. The yard games, for a second.
