Heather and John had a beautiful wedding! It was filled with sweet romantic details that paired perfectly with the rustic barn where their reception was held. Each delicate detail was captured to perfection by Emily Steffen. As beautiful as this wedding was, the story behind it is even more beautiful. Heather was kind enough to share a bit about their wedding story with me.
More from the bride, Heather:
John and I met through John’s little sister Jessie, who was my best friend in college. Jess passed away last summer from cervical cancer. She would have been standing right next to me on our wedding day (I know she still was :). We incorporated her into the wedding in MANY MANY ways! A few ways she was there with us – we met up and sat in her room for a while before we left for the salon, we used her fav makeup: Bobbi Brown, I tied her “create” charm onto my bracelets, we had her pearls (along with my grandma’s bell) on the welcome table, the style of my shoes were actually called “Jessi”, we played a song that Jess recorded during the ceremony, I gave a toast to Jess after dinner and we invited everyone to the bar to take a shot of Patrone (the shot that we always took together).

Our 10 month old fell asleep during the ceremony and at the end our nanny brought him up as the pastor pronounced us husband and wife:) It was so sweet.

Some of the DIY projects I did were the flower cones tied with ribbon, the mason jars tied with lace for the centerpieces and the stationery.

Guests LOVED the ice cream cones that we did instead of cake, especially since it was super hot!

Take 5 min during the chaos of the day and spend it with your husband – no one else – take it in, look around, and savor the moment!
I love that they served ice cream in lieu of cake! Such a perfectly refreshing treat on a hot day.

OMG that baby. I like that baby so much. The wedding rules, too, but that baby. Oh man.
So, so beautiful and such a heartfelt story. The way they incorporated Jess throughout the wedding was so special. All the best to the happy couple!
You are totally rocking my world with your posts Melissa!! This is one *heck* of a wedding! The photography: GORGEOUS, the venue: AMAZING, the couple: SWEET and the children.... oh the children ... CUUUUUUTE!!!
As a Wisconsin girl living in SoCal I was SO EXCITED to see this wedding!! It is beautiful - every detail, stunning and adorable. Thank you for sharing :-)
I can feel for this couple as much as we will feel a similar pain at our wedding in 6 months. My fiance's sister passed away just about a year ago and Robin ask me to marry him in front of her while we were at the hospital with her. She was to be my bridesmaid too. She will be dearly missed.
Beautiful wedding. Amazing story.
