I am so excited about the honeymoon I am sharing with you today!!! It's the exotic Thailand adventure my darling friend, Megan of Forget.Me.Knot.Weddings took with her husband Chris.
More from Megan:
Hi Everyone! I am so excited to be sharing a little piece of our honeymoon with you all! I love this new addition Melissa has added to her blog and thanks for having me share our experiences.
When Chris and I thought about where we wanted to travel for our honeymoon the options were endless but we decided to venture to Thailand and experience the culture & beautiful beaches. We traveled at the end of September into October and even though it was hot during our visit..I loved it as I love warmer climates! Chris and I live in the Bay Area and the over all flight time from San Francisco to Bangkok with connecting flights in Hong Kong and Singapore was about 19 hours total. We flew Singapore Air and I loved everything about this airline, I would highly recommended using them if you travel to South East Asia.
We stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton and as a tip make sure you stay in the executive towers as you will have access to a great breakfast, a private lounge and amazing views of the river.
We Cruised up and down the Chao Phraya River by Boat which is their main use of transportation along the river. It makes you feel like a local riding the boat and the interesting part is they have designated areas on the boat where the monks can stand or sit. We took the boat up to the market where we explored all the great booths and tried the local food.
Next stop was a little touristy but we traveled in style by tuk-tuk to the Grand Palace.
After staying in the bustling city of Bangkok, we traveled South into the gulf of Thailand for a little relaxation on the beautiful beaches.
Our first island destination was to Koh Phangan. We flew Bangkok Air which was about a 45 minute flight to Koh Samui from there we took a ferry to our destination.
We stayed at a beach bungalow called Haad Yao Villa where we swam in the gulf, had massages on the beach & experienced our drink of choice Chang beer.
This island had a very local feel most known for its backpacking travelers.
Excited for some resort like relaxation we ventured back to Koh Samui via the ferry and checked into the beautiful Bandara Resort for the last week of our honeymoon.
Here we experienced pure relaxation as we spent hours on the beach reading, eating pineapple, coconuts & Corn from the locals prepared right on the beach. I think to this day that is the best corn I have ever had!
While in Koh samui we explored the island and had some of the best local cuisine from the street vendors.
Every night from our balcony we enjoyed watching a friendly game of soccer between the locals and the best part was watching a guy walk his water buffalo on a leash down the street!
One of the most enjoyable experiences on our trip back at the resort was a couples spa day that included a floral milk bath and coconut scrub massage.
The day ended perfectly with a dinner on the beach and a serenade of one of our favorite songs “brown eyed girl”. Over all the Bandara resort is a place I could easily go back to ...I miss the warm ginger tea they provided every morning. If you are looking for that perfect honeymoon resort I would recommend checking this one out.
Chris and I had a wonderful experience in Thailand enjoying the busy streets of Bangkok, the natural beach towns and all the generosity of the Thai people.
Also, a great tip is we used Travelers Joy as our registry for our family and friends to contribute to our honeymoon. I would highly recomebed Travelers Joy as they were easy to use and our guests found it fun and helpful to see our trip planned out!
