Period Piece Inspired- Dana & JD's Wedding

While planning our wedding I made a friend named Dana. Not only was Dana also planning her own wedding, but our weddings were on the same date, October 24th, 2009! It was fun having a "date twin", especially one that has a style that I absolutely adore! I knew Dana's wedding would be completely stunning from the moment she told me about her inspiration- old world period piece movies like Marie Antoinette and Pride and Prejudice. SO cool!

Dana was sweet enough to share some details about her wedding...

My most favorite part of planning was the creative aspect of designing the actual event. From the start, I definitely wanted our wedding to have a distinct style and look. JD and I are fans of period piece movies, so my main inspiration came from Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette as well as other period piece movies like Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Ever After, and Shakespeare in Love. I loved the colors from Marie Antoinette, so my intention with our color scheme was to have the same type of mishmash of rich bold jewel tones with pops of pastels.

I went a little hands on over the top in channeling my inner Martha Stewart by making lots of things myself. I made my birdcage veil, the cones hanging down the ceremony aisle, the cupcake tower and topper, the rosettes I sewed on my mom's vintage purse I borrowed from her, my bouquet ribbon wrap, the napkin rings, and the envelopes that enclosed our bookmark favors.

Our venue the Villa Del Sol D'oro was also a perfect backdrop for an old world period piece setting, and I definitely wanted to take advantage of the beautiful rectangular pond. It's a focal point of the ceremony grounds, so my idea to utilize it was to float our unity candle in the pond after we lit it up. It added a nice, unexpected touch that further personalized our ceremony for us.

This photo is so moving- I'm in love with it!
